What are Uterine Fibroids?
Uterine fibroids are common, non-cancerous growths that develop within the muscle of the uterus. They vary in size and number and are often influenced by hormones. Many women with fibroids experience no symptoms, while others may develop symptoms that affect their quality of life.
Symptoms
Fibroids can cause heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding, painful periods, pelvic pressure, bloating, urinary frequency and pelvic discomfort. The symptoms experienced often depend on the size and location of the fibroids.
Fibroids and Fertility
Most women with fibroids can conceive naturally and have healthy pregnancies. However, some fibroids, particularly those that distort the cavity of the uterus, may affect fertility, increase the risk of miscarriage or contribute to pregnancy complications.
Diagnosis and Treatment
