Refining excellence – my IFEMEndo fellowship in Bordeaux
One of the greatest privileges of being a surgeon is the opportunity to continually learn. As a consultant gynaecologist with a special interest in advanced laparoscopic surgery and endometriosis, I was honoured to spend four weeks in Mid 2026 at IFEMEndo in Bordeaux, France, under the mentorship of Professor Horace Roman, Dr Benjamin Merlot and Dr Thomas Dennis.
Recognised internationally as a centre of excellence in advanced endometriosis surgery, IFEMEndo manages some of the world's most complex cases of endometriosis. During my time there, I observed a remarkable volume of advanced minimally invasive surgery, including bowel, bladder, ureteric, diaphragmatic and sacral plexus disease. Equally valuable were the opportunities to exchange ideas with experts and surgeons from around the world. Beyond the technical aspects of advanced endometriosis surgery, I was inspired by the team's meticulous planning, multidisciplinary collaboration and unwavering commitment to excellence in women's care but also their humility and generosity in teaching. Their skill, innovation and collaborative approach have set a benchmark that I will continue to strive towards throughout my career. Thank you for your mentorship, friendship and for reminding me that the pursuit of excellence is a lifelong journey.
