Where Innovation Meets Excellence: My Week at Mayo Clinic
Spending a week at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona was an unforgettable experience and an incredible opportunity to learn from some of the world's leaders in minimally invasive and robotic gynaecological surgery.
What impressed me most was seeing just how far robotic surgery has evolved. Watching the da Vinci 5 platform in action highlighted the future of surgical innovation and reinforced the potential of robotics to further enhance precision and patient outcomes.
It was a privilege to observe Dr Johnny Yi performing single-port sacrocolpopexy, Dr Megan Wasson managing complex endometriosis surgery, Dr Jamal Mourad undertaking complex hysterectomies with ease, and Dr Michelle Louie, whose expertise in laparoscopic myomectomy and exceptional suturing techniques was truly inspiring.
Beyond the operating theatre, the week was filled with collaboration, discussion and the generous exchange of ideas. It concluded with a memorable dinner alongside the legendary Professor Javier Magrina and his wonderful wife, Andrea. Meeting one of the true pioneers of robotic gynaecological surgery was a fitting end to an inspiring week and a reminder that the pursuit of excellence is driven not only by technical mastery, but also by humility, mentorship and a passion for advancing women's healthcare
